Defintion: A stenosing tenosynovial inflammation of the 1st dorsal compartment which includes
Abductor pollicis longus (APL)
Extensor pollicis brevis (EPB)
Risk factors
overuse
post-traumatic
postpartum
Symptoms
gradual onset
radial sided wrist pain
pain exacerbated by gripping and raising objects
tenderness over 1st dorsal compartment at level of radial styloid
Treatment:
rest, NSAIDS, thumb spica splint, steroid injection : first line treatment
surgical release of 1st dorsal compartment (protect the superficial radial sensory nerve)
